Adoption

Cats are now more popular than dogs in the UK, as they make wonderful family pets. Despite this, there are a great many cats in rescue centres up and down the country, waiting to meet their new owners. HCR will try and match cats in our care with an owner who will suit the personality of the cat, so get in touch with us, we might just have the cat you're looking for.

Fostering

We are always looking for short-term foster homes for mother cats with their kittens. Usually we ask fosterers to look after a cat-family for a period of about 10 weeks. Fostering has a double benefit. It frees up a cat pen at busy times (mainly late spring through to early autumn) so that we can take more cats in, and it accustoms kittens to living in a household environment whilst they grow up, which enables them to settle in quicker when they go to their new homes. We will pay all the expenses incurred by the mother cat and kittens during their stay in a foster home, and we undertake to take the family back into our care once the fostering period is completed.

Fostering is as special and as crucial as adopting.

Sponsorship & membership

Some people cannot have cats, but like to think of one of our permanent strays as their own. We have a sponsorship scheme for these cats, and details can be provided on request. It costs as much or as little as you like to join.

Why not sponsor Vivian, a blind cat at HCR?

We also have a Membership scheme, and will be happy to supply details on request. Click here for a membership form to print out. We issue a newsletter about four times each year and will add your name and address to our mailing list if you ask us to, although at the moment this is only available by post, not by email.

Donations

Running HCR is a costly business. Vets' fees, food bills and advertising costs are especially large. We are completely self-funded so any donations, large or small, are always very welcome. There are a number of ways to donate ...

By cheque Please make cheques payable to Haworth Animal Welfare and send them to the address on the Contacting HCR page.

By standing order Regular donations are especially useful. For example, £5 per month (that's just 17p a day) would be a real help. You can make regular donations by standing order. Click here for a form to print out and fill in.

By PayPal on the Internet.

If you are a UK tax payer, and you intend to make a donation to us, please consider signing a Gift Aid form. Under recent Government legislation, a donation of any amount can now be made under Gift Aid (previously it was a minimum of £250), and we can reclaim 28.2p back on each pound donated under the scheme. It will cost you nothing, but the accumulated amount we could gain through this scheme has a significantly worthwhile impact on our income. Please ask for more details if you are not familiar with this scheme.

If you can't make a donation of money, there are many other ways in which you can help the cats. We are always grateful for contributions of spare cat food, shredded paper (we use this instead of litter), baking and plants on the dates of our sales, bric-a-brac that we can sell to raise funds, unwanted presents which we can use as tombola prizes. Other ways you can help us include holding sponsored events, holding coffee mornings or party evenings the list is endless!

Help at the cattery

We always need help with cleaning out, stroking & grooming the cats; at weekends we need help answering the phone and showing visitors around. We also need volunteers to help sort and price bric-a-brac. Or you might have a special skill - builders always welcome!

Any good at DIY?

Fund-raising

One of our biggest source of income is by selling goods that have been donated by well-wishers. We sell these at sales and fayres, and sell some of the nicer pieces on-line to a world-wide market by using eBay.

If you register on eBay via this link, HCR automatically receives £3. It doesn't cost you a penny!

Charity Auctions

If you are already registered, you can reach the HCR section of eBay direct by clicking here. Why not add the page to your favourites?

We also have regular tombolas at local fayres and other themed events. Unwanted gifts make great tombola prizes.

Spread the word!

Tell your family and friends about the plight of cats. They might be tempted to give a home to a one. Stick up a poster in your local vet's surgery.
