If you are interested in adopting a cat from HCR, the first thing to do is to contact us for a preliminary chat. You can find our number on the Contacting HCR page. We will ask you about the sort of home you are offering, in terms of other pets or children who live there, and your experience with cats. If there is at least one cat here which may be suitable for you, you will be invited to visit us and have a look It may be a case of love at first sight, or you may have specific requirements. When you get here, we will show you the cat(s) which might be best for you, and expect you to spend some time with the cats to see which one bonds with you the best. ![]() Click the cat to see some of the cats at HCR that are waiting for homes. The next stepIf there is a suitable cat for you, you will be allowed to take it home as long as you have a suitable carrying basket (we sometimes have second-hand ones on sale). We will ask you to sign an adoption form and to make a donation towards our costs. All the cats are neutered and have been treated for worms, fleas and anything else that is apparently wrong with them. They are also micro-chipped. If we know that the cat has something wrong with it, we will tell you. Some cats will be covered by us for age-related conditions or existing conditions. We will tell you about this when you visit. ![]() If you choose a cat, we will reserve it for you for up to three days at your request to enable you to buy any accessories you require. Or if you need time to think about whether a cat is suitable for you, we will hold it for 24 hours to give you time to think. Please don't visit us just before your holiday, and ask us to keep the cat until your return. We won't! It just blocks a pen for us at what is usually the busiest time of the year.
Please note ...Should things not work out, and sometimes they don't, we will take the cat back within a fortnight, but please let us know earlier than that if there are likely to be problems. After a fortnight we will put the cat on our waiting list and take it back as soon as possible.
